Pityriasis Versicolor - Pityriasis Capitis

Pityriasis Versicolor is a fungal infection in which pale or sometimes dark flaky skin patches appear on the trunk in dark-skinned people and darker patches appear on the skin of fair-skinned people. Pityriasis versicolor affects the trunk, neck, and/or arms, and is uncommon on other parts of the body. Pityriasis Versicolor condition is treated with antifungal ointment. This common fungal disease is most prevalent in the tropics where there are high humidity and high temperatures and frequent exposure to sunlight. Several studies have addressed the frequency of tinea versicolor based on sex, and no dominance of either sex is apparent.

Pityriasis Versicolor Causes

It is caused by an yeast infection and yeast is present in every human body, but it rarely affects us. However, people of any age can be affected and in some tropical areas more than 40% of the population have the condition.

Symptoms of pityriasis versicolor

  • Patches of pigmentation on the skin.
  • pale pink, brownish or whitish Patches.
  • itchy or uncomfortable.
  • small spots of discolored skin (i.e., Liver Spots ). 
  • found on the upper part of the chest and back.

Pityriasis Versicolor Treatment

This disorder is treated with clotrimazole cream or lotion, with selenium sulfide lotion shampoo. Once the infection has been treated, use a lotion or cream periodically to prevent re-infection.

Pityriasis versicolor is usually very easy to treat but it has a greater chance of reccurances.

Pityriasis Capitis

Pityriasis Capitis is more commonly known as dandruff. It may be cured simply by using a good anti-dandruff shampoo, though in some cases, a mildly acidic lotion or a streroid lotion is used for Pityriasis Capitis treatment.
