Ageing - premature skin ageing

The main cause of premature skin ageing is overexposure to the sun. The sun emits two kinds of ultravoilent UV rays - UVA and UVB. UVA rays penetrate the skin more deeply than UVB rays. They have an effect on the cheeper layers where they alter the structure of the elastic fibres in the dermis. They also exacerbate damage caused by UVB rays, and so speed up the photo ageing process.

To protect tour skin from sun damage, it is important to use a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor. Strong sunshine also dehydrates the skin and causes free-radical damage. So you should include in your diet foods that help protect against these twin evils.

If you smoke, or are regularly exposed to second hand smoke, include vitamin C- rich in your diet to protect your skin and reducing ageing.

Foods, Diet and home remedies to reduce Skin Ageing

Excess sugar intake causes cross-linkages to form between the collagen fibres in the skin. As a result, these fibres lose their strength and elasticity. This also encourages the appearance of brown discolouration marks and age spots. Sugar of all types should be avoided whenever possible. Avoid adding it to drinks and cooking and try not to eat anything that is very sweet or has a lot of pre-added sugar. You will need to be vigilant, as sugar is hidden in many processed foods, and sauces - and even alcohol.
